Principle and Structure:
The weighing sensor utilizes the resistance strain principle to determine force. This is done by attaching a strain gauge to a hollow cylinder that, when force is applied, compresses and expands—changing its shape. These physical changes affect how the strain gauge conducts electricity, altering its electrical resistance in different directions: it decreases along the axis of compression and increases along the radius.
To measure this, the strain gauge is part of an electrical circuit known as a Wheatstone bridge, which is designed to very precisely detect small changes in resistance. When the force is applied and the strain gauge's resistance changes, the bridge becomes unbalanced. Applying power from an external source allows the bridge to generate a corrective voltage at its output point. This voltage is directly related to the amount of force applied to the load cell, making it possible to accurately measure and quantify that force.
